Say it right. The first time.
Tap-tap, done.

Stop burning minutes on how to phrase it. Double-tap your shortcut in Mail, Slack, Notion — anywhere — and your sentence comes back clearer and more polished. Highlight a message you received instead, and Rewrite drafts the reply. Nothing sensitive ever leaves your laptop.

FEATURES

Rewrite. Respond. Draft.

Rewrite

Double-tap ⌥ and your draft comes back clear and professional — still in your voice. Deadlines and facts survive; the venom doesn't.

Respond

Highlight a message you received and double-tap ⌃. Rewrite drafts the reply for you — you just review, tweak, and send.

Draft

Nothing highlighted? You get a blank canvas: jot down what you want to say, and Rewrite writes the message from your notes.

See exactly what's sent

The "What the AI sees" tab shows the masked payload of every single request — names, numbers and orgs already swapped out.

Never loses a draft

Dismiss the panel mid-thought and your work is right there on the next invoke — even if you've moved to another app.

Works with ChatGPT or Claude

No API keys, no new bills — Rewrite runs on a plan you already have. Use ChatGPT (a free account works) or Claude Pro/Max, and switch between them anytime.

✓ Already reads well And when your writing is already good? Rewrite says so instead of rewriting for the sake of it.

PRIVACY

Rewrite never sends sensitive data to the cloud.

Most writing assistants are keyloggers with good branding — they have to watch everything to be useful. Rewrite is built the other way: it reads only what you want it to, at the moment you ask, and forgets it when the tooltip closes. It replaces sensitive data with anonymous placeholders before sending anything to the AI, then switches the real details back in the app.

One keystroke flips between your polished rewrite and the exact, masked payload the AI receives.

Before a single word leaves your Mac, Rewrite replaces every name, number and address with an anonymized key. The key map never leaves your machine — and the real details are restored locally the moment the rewrite returns.

1

Detected on-device

A local scan — pattern matching plus on-device NER. The detection itself never touches the network.

2

Only placeholders leave

The AI rewrites around [[NAME_1]] and friends. It never sees a real name, address or number.

3

Restored locally, then verified

Real details are swapped back on your Mac. If even one placeholder comes back wrong, Rewrite refuses to insert.

FAQ

Fair questions.

What do I need to run it?

An Apple Silicon Mac — any M1, M2, M3, or M4 — running macOS 14 (Sonoma) or later. It's a signed, Apple-notarized download you install directly. Intel Macs aren't supported.

Why does it need Accessibility and Input Monitoring permissions?

That's how Rewrite reads the field you invoke it in and detects the ⌥⌥ double-tap — and nothing else. Both permissions are granted once in System Settings; onboarding walks you through each one.

Is my text sent to Rewrite's servers?

No. Rewrite has no content servers. Your sentence is pseudonymized on your Mac, goes directly to your own signed-in AI provider, and comes straight back. We never see it.

Will people be able to tell I used AI?

Not unless you tell them. Rewrite makes the smallest edit that fixes your sentence — it doesn't regenerate it in chatbot voice. Readers distrust obviously-generated text; grammar-and-tone-level help still reads as you, because it is you.

Isn't this built into macOS now?

Apple's Writing Tools are fine for a first pass — but they live behind a menu, work only in apps that support them, and rewrite in a generic voice that never learns yours. Rewrite is one gesture at your caret, works in any app, takes instructions, and learns how you actually sound.

Which AI does it use — and do I need an account?

Your choice of ChatGPT or Claude — sign in with a plan you already have and Rewrite rides it. A free ChatGPT account works; Claude needs a Pro or Max plan. Switch between them anytime from the panel, and if one hits its usage limit Rewrite falls back to the other automatically.

Why isn't it on the Mac App Store?

The permissions Rewrite needs preclude App Store sandboxing. It ships direct instead: notarized by Apple, signed, and updated in-app.

Is the beta really free?

Yes — the beta is open and free for everyone right now. No card, no invite list, no trial clock: download it and start rewriting. If that ever changes, you'll hear it in the app first — nothing converts automatically.
